Writer's Playground was started in Durham Region, northeast of Toronto, Canada (2003) by writer Barbara E. Hunt as a cluster of activities because, as she puts it, "our creative depths are such a cool place to play around in." And play she does - writing, teaching, speaking. Her writing is seen both locally and nationally in such locations as The Globe & Mail, CBC Radio One and Homemaker's Magazine.
On a personal note, this mother of four, grandmother of two holds a graduate degree in languages and literature, a design diploma and both small business and corporate experience. She is currently on the Board of Directors with one of this country's largest writers' circles and belongs to associations for poets, children's authors and playwrights including the Professional Writers' Association of Canada.
POEM-MANIA provides children from grades 4 to 8 with the opportunity to spend classroom time in active word-play as a precursor to poetry in a more formal sense. The program may be tailored for younger children with hands-on playtime and for older students through the introduction to some intensive poetry writing exercises.
THE CREATIVE CALL is an exploration of the creativity found in every human being.
Workshops are organized on a regular basis and if listening is in your field of interest, please feel free to browse suggestions for presentations for groups and organizations.
